About Us

Thulasi Social Trust

NGO work is important because it empowers underserved women with skills, dignity, and opportunities, helping them achieve financial independence and build stronger, resilient communities.

Thulasi Social Trust, established in 2009, is a non-profit NGO based in Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu, dedicated to empowering women through skills, opportunities, and dignity. We exist because many women still struggle for basic livelihood options due to limited access to education and income sources. Through practical training in tailoring, aari work, mushroom cultivation, and other livelihood skills, we help women build confident and sustainable futures. We also provide counselling, SHG support, and small loans that enable women to start or strengthen their livelihoods. With over 250 women empowered so far, we continue to turn struggles into opportunities for lasting change across the Thoothukudi region.

Events

Mushroom Cultivation & Marketing Training

We conducted a hands-on training program on mushroom cultivation and marketing in Thoothukudi for many women and college students. This initiative helped participants learn practical cultivation methods, basic processing, and market linkage skills. The training created awareness about low-investment livelihood options suitable for rural and urban women. It encouraged women in Thoothukudi to explore sustainable income through small-scale mushroom production.

Programs

Women Skill Development & Vocational Training

We provide hands-on training in tailoring, aari embroidery, mushroom cultivation, and other income-generating skills. These programs are designed to help women build confidence and develop practical abilities that can be turned into sustainable livelihoods. Our trainings reach women from rural and underserved communities, ensuring accessibility for those who need it most. Many participants have successfully started small enterprises and home-based businesses. This initiative continues to uplift women by converting challenges into career opportunities.
